PALOMA FAITH – NEVER TEAR US APART (INXS COVER)
‘Umbrella Academy‘ appreciation week continues, and we turn to cover songs used on that wonderful show.
There is, of course, Tiffany’s minor 80s synthpop hit ‘I Think We’re Alone Now‘, used to absolutely beautiful effect in a hilarious dance scene in episode 1. If you don’t fall in love with the show at that point, the show probably isn’t for you.
Paloma Faith’s soulful version of the INXS classic ‘Never Tear Us Apart‘ is another great one. Probably my favourite song of the season. Not that being reminded of Toploader’s (remember them?) 2000 cover of King Harvest’s (don’t pretend you do remember them) ‘Dancing In The Moonlight‘ was bad either.
Or how about ‘One‘, the Harry Nilsson song, covered for the show by none other than the creator of the ‘Umbrella Academy‘ comics himself, former My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way (with Ray Toro). Or ‘Happy Together‘, the song by The Turtles, covered for the show … by Gerard Way (with Ray Toro).
And then there is the – slightly overused in soundtracks – only really famous version of ‘Sinnerman‘ by Nina Simone. Beautiful as always. We will get back to that one as ‘Umbrella Academy’ appreciation week concludes.
Until then, enjoy Paloma Faith above. Or maybe Tiffany …
